18th century hunting dagger, blade shortened to 30.5 cm. Fla - Lot 31
18th century hunting dagger, blade shortened to 30.5 cm. Flat-backed blade featuring the Solingen arrow, one hollow edge on each side. One decorated with a fleur-de-lys, the other with a Turk. The heel of the blade features a fine engraving "FOUASSE neveu et successeur de Mr Guyon au Roy de la chine sur le pont St Michel à Paris" and on the other side the same words but in the longitudinal direction. Finely twisted brown horn frame, hallmarked silver cruise. Leather scabbard also shortened and fitted with two later tin-plated iron fittings. FOUASSE François -Maximilien: Supplier in Paris 1765-1775. Received the title of master supplier on Oct. 30, 1765. He forged musketeer swords for the bodyguard of the Comte d'Artois. Nephew and successor of M. Guyon, at the Roy de la Chine on the Pont Neuf in Paris.
